Valves Instruments Plus Ltd – High Performance Commercial Solar Installation

Project Overview

Live Solar recently completed a commercial solar installation for Valves Instruments Plus Ltd (VIP) at their distribution centre in Manchester. The goal of the project was to reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions and improve long-term energy independence.

Following an initial consultation shortly after Christmas, our team worked closely with VIP to design a solar system capable of generating a significant portion of the building’s electricity demand.

Using advanced solar mapping and energy modelling tools, we analysed the building’s roof space, orientation and energy usage patterns to estimate the expected performance of the system.

The system was installed in February 2025, and the first full month of production data quickly demonstrated that the system was performing even better than predicted.

Real Performance Results

One of the most important questions when installing a commercial solar system is whether the system will perform as expected. Solar modelling tools provide accurate estimates, but real-world data always tells the true story.

For the VIP system, our initial modelling estimated the following for the first full month of production.

Estimated average daily generation (March):
185 kWh per day

However, once the system was fully operational, the real numbers told an even better story.

Actual average daily generation (March):
262 kWh per day

This represents approximately 40% higher generation than originally estimated, demonstrating how well-optimised solar systems can outperform conservative modelling assumptions.

First Month Performance

During its first full month of operation, the system delivered impressive results.

Total electricity generated in March:
8,140 kWh

Estimated financial savings:
Over £2,100 in just one month

For businesses with strong daytime electricity demand, solar systems can begin delivering meaningful financial savings immediately after installation.

Why the System Is Performing So Well

With more than 12 years of experience designing and installing solar systems, we have seen how careful system optimisation can significantly improve real-world performance.

Several factors contributed to the strong results achieved by the VIP installation:

• Optimised panel placement across the available roof space
• Accurate electrical design and inverter configuration
• Careful consideration of shading and roof orientation
• High-quality solar components and installation standards

When systems are designed correctly from the outset, they often outperform the conservative estimates used during the proposal stage.

Future Generation Forecast

As the UK moves into the summer months, solar production naturally increases due to longer daylight hours and higher sun angles.

The VIP system is expected to generate even more electricity in the coming months.

Predicted average daily generation

April
Approximately 295 kWh per day

May
Approximately 365 kWh per day

These higher generation levels will further increase the financial benefits of the installation as the system enters peak solar season.

Financial Benefits and Payback

When the system was originally proposed, our conservative modelling estimated a payback period of approximately three years.

However, two factors are likely to shorten this return on investment.

First, the system is already generating significantly more electricity than originally estimated.

Second, businesses installing solar systems in the UK can often benefit from Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) tax relief, allowing the full cost of the system to be deducted from taxable profits in the first year.

When these factors are combined, the real payback period for the system could be considerably shorter than originally forecast.

Helping Businesses Take Control of Energy

Projects like the VIP installation demonstrate how commercial solar systems can help businesses reduce operating costs while improving environmental performance.

By generating electricity directly from their roof, companies can:

• Reduce electricity bills
• Protect themselves from rising energy prices
• Lower carbon emissions
• Improve energy independence

For many organisations, solar is becoming an essential part of long-term energy strategy.

Installed by Live Solar

At Live Solar, every project begins with detailed system design and performance modelling to ensure the installation delivers reliable long-term results.

Our approach focuses on:

• Accurate solar design and performance modelling
• High-quality solar panels and inverter technology
• Safe and professional installation
• Long-term system monitoring and reliability

Seeing systems perform above expectations is always rewarding for both our clients and our team.
