Project Overview
Live Solar Ltd recently completed a solar installation on a new-build workshop facility, working in partnership with a prefabricated steel building manufacturer and the main contractor during the construction phase.
By being involved early in the build process, our team was able to collaborate closely with the manufacturer and project team to ensure the solar installation was fully optimised before the roof was even completed.
This early coordination allowed skylight positions and roof layouts to be carefully planned to maximise solar generation while avoiding any shading or layout restrictions.
The final system includes 72 high-efficiency solar panels paired with a 69 kWh battery storage system, enabling the building to generate and store its own electricity while working within the constraints of the local rural grid connection.

This project demonstrates the advantage of installing solar during the construction phase of a building.

Working Alongside the Construction Team
One of the major advantages of this project was that Live Solar was involved while the building was still under construction.
This allowed our team to work closely with both the building manufacturer and the main contractor to integrate the solar installation efficiently into the build programme.
By coordinating early in the process we were able to:
• Share access equipment already on site
• Use existing edge protection installed for construction
• Share welfare facilities and site infrastructure
• Reduce additional installation costs for the client
This collaborative approach made the project more efficient and helped reduce overall installation costs.
Optimising the Roof Design
Because the building was still in the design stage, Live Solar was able to consult directly with the steel building manufacturer regarding the placement of skylights.
This is an important detail that is often overlooked when solar is installed after a building is completed.
By carefully positioning skylights during the design phase, we were able to:
• Maximise the available roof space for solar panels
• Prevent shading across panel rows
• Avoid awkward panel layouts or system restrictions
• Deliver a cleaner and more efficient solar array
This early coordination resulted in a far more effective system design.

Battery Storage for Energy Flexibility
In addition to the solar panels, the system includes 69 kWh of battery storage.
Battery storage plays an important role in commercial installations, particularly in rural locations where grid capacity can sometimes be limited.
The battery system allows the site to:
• Store excess solar energy generated during the day
• Use stored energy during peak demand periods
• Reduce reliance on grid electricity
• Manage future increases in electricity demand
By combining solar generation with energy storage, the building can operate more efficiently while maintaining flexibility for future energy needs.
Designed for Rural Grid Constraints
Because the building is located in a rural setting, grid connection constraints were an important consideration during the system design process.
Battery storage allows the system to operate within these constraints while still delivering strong performance and energy independence.
This approach helps the building balance on-site generation with local grid limitations, ensuring the system operates reliably without exceeding connection limits.
Installed by Live Solar
At Live Solar Ltd, we specialise in designing and installing solar systems that are tailored to each building and project.
Our team works closely with architects, contractors and building owners to ensure solar installations are integrated effectively into both new-build and existing properties.
Our approach focuses on:
• Accurate system design and performance modelling
• High-quality solar panels and battery storage systems
• Safe and professional installation practices
• Long-term system reliability and monitoring
Projects like this demonstrate how solar can be integrated seamlessly into new building developments when considered early in the design process.
Could Solar Be Built Into Your Project?
If you’re planning a new commercial building or workshop, integrating solar during the construction phase can significantly improve both system performance and installation efficiency.
Early design collaboration allows solar installations to be optimised from the outset, often reducing installation costs while maximising long-term energy generation.
At Live Solar Ltd, we work with developers, contractors and building owners to deliver tailored solar solutions for commercial buildings across the UK.
If you’re planning a new build or looking to reduce energy costs for an existing property, we would be happy to help.
